Disney world has unveiled a huge new 270 acre solar farm consisting of half a million 50 megawatt solar panels.
A recent new york times article showed off the facility which is located within a 270 acre area dedicated to renewable energy just outside of disney s animal kingdom.
It s taken disney a while to build a large scale solar facility but the epcot area is no stranger to solar panels.
The new solar farm joins the infamous mickey shaped 5mw solar park that disney installed next to its epcot center in 2016 and will provide up to 25 of the power used by disney world.
This is made possible through a collaboration with the reedy creek.
To put that in perspective the farm is nearly twice the size of the magic kingdom park.
It provides renewable solar power to the entire reedy creek improvement district which includes walt disney world resort.
The new facility is disney s largest solar endeavor to date and is expected to generate enough energy to power two of the four theme parks at walt disney world.
The soon to open disney world solar facility spread along a 270 acre designated renewable energy area will produce enough energy to supply 10 000 homes annually and will reduce greenhouse gas.
