In case you find tracing the design a cumbersome job then you could put your creativity and sense of judgment to best use by marking the centre spot for fixing the plate which comes in the centre of the design.

Slowly rub the putty down with sandpaper until it is level with the ceramic plate surface.
Paint over the patch to blend it into the tile and let it dry for 24 hours.
Once you have the measurements readily marked on the wall you could neatly fix the nails and hang your plates accordingly.
Turn each plate upside down onto paper.
If it doesn t take the hanger off the plate bend it and place it back on to see if it s where you need it to be.
Plates should vary in size and or shape for interest.
Gently wipe the surface of the patch with a dry cloth to remove any dust from the sanding.
Dip your brush into the paint and apply it to the patch.
Use straight brush strokes and reload it with paint whenever it dries out.
Lay white paper on a flat surface.
The best way to do this is to first attach the plate hanger to the plate and lie the plate on a flat surface.
The top of the hanger should barely touch the flat surface that your plate is lying on.
Cut a piece of light grade sandpaper small enough to rub over the putty but not so large that it will rub the ceramic on either side of the putty.
