Take these measurements to your carpet dealer to make sure you get an ample amount of carpet for your job.

Step 1 measure the room to be carpeted.
Step 2 cut your carpet to fit the steps.
Keep the carpet as tight as possible as you go.
Measure the width of the steps and of the carpet.
If you ve already painted the walls or planned for any other decorating in the room take in.
Start at one side of the room and roll out the first section across the floor.
To trim the carpet around any corners or doorjambs to get a good fit press the carpet firmly against the bottom of whatever you re working around and cut from each end of the obstacle upward toward the center of it making an upside down v fold down the sides and trim away the center of the v like you did the other edges in the room.
Step 4 align the edge of the rolled carpet with the back and one side of the top step.

Step 5 lay the carpet.
Step 1 determine how much you need.
Be sure to tell them that you are carpeting over concrete since that requires different carpet material as well as slightly different tools than carpeting over wooden surfaces step 2 bring any drape or paint samples to the carpet dealer for comparison.
Position the rolls of carpet end to end along one wall as they will install.
When all the padding is attached you ll need to make a template and cut the carpet to fit.
If the carpet is wider than the steps use your straightedge and utility knife to cut a strip of carpet about 2 wider than the width of the steps.
Line up the edge of the carpet so it is square with the steps and begin pressing it to the steps.
Make sure that it is straight and goes right up to the edge of the space you are.
Spread carpet adhesive on the first two to three steps using a notched adhesive spreader.
Spread the glue on the next two to three steps and continue laying the carpet keeping it as tight as possible.
Wrap the carpet pad around the front edge of the steps and down the riser.
Fit the ends at the base of each wall.
Once you have spread some of the adhesive or put the double faced tape into place you need to lay the carpet down into it.
